Zizia aptera, or Heart-Leaf Golden Alexander, is a 1-2 foot perennial flowering in late spring. Heart-Leaf Golden Alexander prefers moist to moderately dry soils and sun to light shade. The perennial has attractive, leathery, dark evergreen, heart-shaped leaves and bright yellow flowering flat-topped umbels. A larval food for swallowtail butterflies, it is often best suited for use in moist meadows and woodland edges.
