Bouteloua curtipendula
Sideoats Grama
Description
Bouteloua curtipendula, or Sideoats Grama, is short, hardy prairie grass, growing in dry to medium moisture soils and full sun. Side Oats Grama has narrow blue-green foliage with purple flowers appearing in early to mid summer. The leaves turn golden brown in fall. Small oat-like seeds develop on the side of its stalk. Side Oats Grama is an excellent grass for drought-tolerant gardens, meadows, prairies, slopes, or other naturalized areas. It performs well when used for erosion control.
