Coreopsis lanceolata
Lanceleaf Coreopsis
Description
Coreopsis lanceolata, or Lanceleaf Coreopsis, is a 2 foot, tough perennial often used in wildflower mixes. Lanceleaf Coreopsis prefers dry, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade and produces brilliant, yellow, daisy-like flowers from June to July. The plant tolerates heat, humidity, and drought. Deadheading spent flowers can encourage additional blooms and prevent unwanted self-seeding. The plant works great in the garden and along borders. The Coreopsis species typically provides food to caterpillars of some Lepidoptera species. Bees, hover flies, and wasps often visit the flowers.
Coreopsis lanceolata is also commonly known as Sand Coreopsis or Tickseed. The name Tickseed refers to its seeds resembling ticks.
