Dicentra eximia

Bleeding Heart

SKU: di-exim Category:

Description

Dicentra eximia, or Bleeding Heart, is a dainty little 9-12” woodlander perennial with attractive lacy fern-like foliage and pink flowers shaped like bleeding hearts. Bleeding Heart prefers full to part shade and medium to moist loamy, organic well-drained soils. Native bumblebees frequent the flowers to gather nectar. The flowers bloom from early spring through the end of summer. Bleeding Heart readily reseeds itself once the ripe seed pods open and mix into the topsoil. The pods are ripe when the seed inside turns black. Do not allow the seed to dry out before mixing into topsoil as they need to be moist, or they die.
