Description
Hypericum perforatum, or Dotted St. John’s Wort, is a 1-3 foot tall common perennial preferring medium to well-drained, mesic soils and full to part sun. The plant’s yellow flowers with black dots and bushy stamens appear in late June to September. Numerous pollinating insects and native bees are attracted to its flowers. The flowers from Dotted St. John’s Wort are often used in tea as they are a well-known herbal treatment for mild forms of depression, wounds, cuts, and sores. Dotted St. John’s Wort spreads by seed and rhizomes and is excellent in rocky or gravelly soils.
